PyGrunn community site

Yesterday at the Monthly PyGrunn meeting we decided to make www.pygrunn.nl the central hub for all things PyGrunn. The question is how to turn this site into a real community site. Currently PyGrunners are sharing using a mailinglist, LinkedIn, twitter, pygrunn.nl, Google+ and facebook. Let's start the discussion: What kind of site should we create for the PyGrunn community? A few requirements: - Everybody should be able to contribute to the site; - It should be simple to schedule events (Monthly PyGrunn for instance) to which community members can sign up; - It should be easy to connect posts to social media; - ... The current site is built on top of AppEngine and Django, but there are also Facebook and G+ pages.

PyGrunn masterclass

Today Michael Bayer gave a truly wonderful masterclass on SQLAlchemy at the Paylogic office. Lot's of interesting discussions going on. He surely kept up the tradition of high quality that Armin Ronacher initiated set last year. We are definitely looking forward to Michael's keynote at the conference tomorrow. He promised to deliver some really interesting news!

Talk: Armin Ronacher: I'm doing HTTP wrong - A fresh look at HTTP from Python

We are truly proud to again welcome one of the most highly appreciated members of the Python community: Armin Ronacher. This time Armin will take a deeper look into something that we all use on a daily basis: HTTP. As he sums it up: "Every web framework under the sun follows the same fundamental principles. It's time to challenge some of the code details and rethink how we think and utilize HTTP." Highly recommended!

Talk: Bram Noordzij - Amazon Web Services. The good, bad & ugly

In this high-pace, in-depth talk Bram Noordzij will take you by the hand and lead you through the constantly changing landscape of Amazon Web Services. Along the way Bram will use both his wits and unparalleled technical skills to point out the good, bad and ugly. Highly recommended for everybody who realizes that software development is not done once the last line of code has been written.

Talk: Alexander Solovyov - GO

We are proud to welcome an old friend at PyGrunn 2012: The wonderfully brilliant Alexander Solovyov! While being a Python fan Alexander is always interested in other programming languages (as it should be). In this talk he will dive into GO. GO is the new kid on the block that has some interesting features. Alexander will dive into the details and highlight both the similarities and differences with Python. He will do so using network services as a use case. As usual you can find more information here.

Talk: Dan Tofan - Python tools for making architectural decisions

In large software development projects, how do you assess architectural decisions? There are various approaches but only a few tools. Dan Tofan will present such in interesting tool developed in Django. More here.

Talk: Rick Oost - Generalized traversals

We have another interesting talk scheduled for you. This time on traversals in Python. Rick Oost will present his haskell-inspired Python library for generalized traversals not only for datatypes other than lists, but also with the mapping and reducing aspect expressed as special cases of one operation. Talk: Niels Hageman - Distributed job scheduling

This is going to be an interesting talk by Paylogic's Niels Hageman. He has written a system to manage and reliably schedule jobs in a distributed way in a cluster of servers. It is called Sisyphus and is definitely worth checking out if cronjobs don't cut it for you anymore. Sisyphus has proven itself in Paylogic's high demanding production environment and deserves some more attention.
